Angus Houston TEP

Managing Director and Private Client Lawyer

I made the decision to retrain as a Trust and Estate Practitioner and set up Pavilion Row in 2008 as a result of personal experience. I felt unreservedly that this was an area that could be done better.

Dealing with Wills and probate are both areas where it is important to have knowledge, as well as sensitivity and the ability to work with people at a personal level. This personal care and attention, coupled with our knowledge and expertise ensures our clients feel at ease, and are able to trust us completely with what is ultimately an incredibly sensitive legal matter.

Only by knowing the right questions to ask and understanding the importance of the answers can we be sure that we give the correct advice for what our clients need and want. For this reason, the company was founded on the basis that all our advisers are qualified to the highest level through the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP). This company wide commitment to ethos and best practice ensures consistency throughout our organisation and resonates throughout the relationships we build with our clients and partners.

I have over 10 years’ experience in private client law, with my main focus being Wills and Powers of Attorney. I am an active member of STEP, serving as Chairman of the Yorkshire region for 3 years and now sit on the STEP Worldwide Branch Development Committee as the representative for England and Wales. My role as Chairman involved the development of the Yorkshire branch and the CPD programme for its members. I have also worked closely with STEP to help raise the standards in the industry, which resulted in the introduction of a high-level Will Advice qualification.

My business only exists because of our clients and I expect to deliver the same high standards of service and clarity that I would want for myself and my family.

Qualifications

Full member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) | Previous Chairman of the Yorkshire branch of STEP.

Lorna Jessop ACA

Director, Head of Finance

I started my accounting career in London in 1994, and having gained membership of ICAEW, I quickly realised I wanted to work with firms in a much more pro-active way rather than simply completing year end accounts and annual audit inspections.

Following management accounting roles in both the manufacturing and service industries I started working with Pavilion Row in 2012, and am now responsible for all financial aspects of the business.

Pavilion Row has always put their clients first, and my role is to ensure procedures are in place to maintain full security of client funds held by us, as well as managing all day to day operational aspects of finance. I oversee all incoming and outgoing transactions within the business’s accounts in order to ensure the high levels of service are provided to all stakeholders; including clients, introducers, suppliers and employees.

Qualifications

Member of Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.

Since qualifying as a Solicitor in 1993, I have demonstrated consistent commitment to continued learning and development in my chosen fields. I have been a registered Estates and Trust Practitioner with the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) since 2002, and I am exceedingly happy to be working with a firm that shares my commitment to providing the very best in private client services and continued personal and professional development.

Jade is a qualified solicitor and is on our training pathway to achieve her full STEP diploma, having already completed 2 exams including the STEP advanced certificate in Will preparation. She has had 6 years’ experience working within the field of Private Client law.

Jade specialises in providing bespoke advice on estate planning, preparation of Wills and the creation of LPAs for our clients. She also supports clients in court protection applications for those who have lost mental capacity but need somebody to look after their affairs.

Meet Jade

During my career, I have worked at a variety of firms that have differed greatly. This has given me wide-ranging experience which helps me in my job today. However, every day is a school day, and I am continuously learning from colleagues.

Pavilion Row’s work ethos means that we tackle challenges as a team and share our relevant experience with each other. We are not scared to ask! Therefore, the clients that I speak to are not just benefiting from my knowledge but the whole team’s.

I enjoy chatting to clients and getting to know about them and their circumstances. Making a Will can be daunting therefore my approach is to think about how I would like my own family to be treated. I want our clients to feel respected and comfortable about discussing their personal matters but in the knowledge that they are receiving the best possible advice.

Clients often tell me they were dreading the conversation about their Will but are pleasantly surprised at how easy it was – I know then that I have done my job well!

Ruby Waterworth – Legal Associate

Ruby has a law degree and is currently studying for her Level 6 Diploma in Probate Law and Practice. She initially joined us for work experience during her studies, but we wouldn’t let her leave!

She supports our advisers in delivering Will and Probate services to our clients.

Meet Ruby

My current studies are helping me to gain further knowledge within the Wills and Probate area of law. However, I also really appreciate being able to learn from the vast skills and expertise within the team.

I previously worked at the Crown court assisting victims and witnesses through the court process, which can often be tough and emotional. Going through the probate process and making a Will can also be an emotional and stressful time, therefore I am able to use my skills gained at the courts to help clients through this.

I believe that being personable, approachable, and compassionate can make all the difference to clients. All client’s circumstances and aims are distinct to them, so I always like to take the time to understand their needs.
