Angus Houston TEP

Managing Director and Private Client Lawyer

I made the decision to retrain as a Trust and Estate Practitioner and set up Pavilion Row in 2008 as a result of personal experience. I felt unreservedly that this was an area that could be done better.

Dealing with Wills and probate are both areas where it is important to have knowledge, as well as sensitivity and the ability to work with people at a personal level. This personal care and attention, coupled with our knowledge and expertise ensures our clients feel at ease, and are able to trust us completely with what is ultimately an incredibly sensitive legal matter.

Only by knowing the right questions to ask and understanding the importance of the answers can we be sure that we give the correct advice for what our clients need and want. For this reason, the company was founded on the basis that all our advisers are qualified to the highest level through the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP). This company wide commitment to ethos and best practice ensures consistency throughout our organisation and resonates throughout the relationships we build with our clients and partners.

I have over 10 years’ experience in private client law, with my main focus being Wills and Powers of Attorney. I am an active member of STEP, serving as Chairman of the Yorkshire region for 3 years and now sit on the STEP Worldwide Branch Development Committee as the representative for England and Wales. My role as Chairman involved the development of the Yorkshire branch and the CPD programme for its members. I have also worked closely with STEP to help raise the standards in the industry, which resulted in the introduction of a high-level Will Advice qualification.

My business only exists because of our clients and I expect to deliver the same high standards of service and clarity that I would want for myself and my family.

Qualifications

Full member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) | Previous Chairman of the Yorkshire branch of STEP.

People trust us with their highly personal aspirations and their advisers trust us with their clients. So ensuring that people leave with the feeling that they have received excellent advice, at good value, from qualified, experienced and friendly people is our service goal on a daily basis.

I have worked previously providing regulated advice to clients so I know the importance of being upfront and clear about what we deliver and making sure that our clients receive the right advice for them.

Director, Head of Finance

I started my accounting career in London in 1994, and having gained membership of ICAEW, I quickly realised I wanted to work with firms in a much more pro-active way rather than simply completing year end accounts and annual audit inspections.

Following management accounting roles in both the manufacturing and service industries I started working with Pavilion Row in 2012, and am now responsible for all financial aspects of the business.

Pavilion Row has always put their clients first, and my role is to ensure procedures are in place to maintain full security of client funds held by us, as well as managing all day to day operational aspects of finance. I oversee all incoming and outgoing transactions within the business’s accounts in order to ensure the high levels of service are provided to all stakeholders; including clients, introducers, suppliers and employees.

Qualifications

Member of Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
